Chris Rufty presented his research project “Solvent-free peracetylation of carbohydrates” at The American Chemical Society Southeast Regional Meeting in Atlanta, GA. Rufty is a chemistry major in his senior year at USC Columbia. He began his research with Dr. Li Cai as a Salkehatchie student and continued his chemical research journey after he transferred to the Columbia campus.

During the past two years, Rufty has received many scholarships and awards including the SC STEPs to STEM scholarship, the Magellan Scholarship and the Magellan Voyager Travel Award. Rufty has also attended many conferences and has published one paper with Dr. Cai and has submitted another manuscript which is under review.

Rufty plans to continues his studies as a graduate student in chemistry after he gets his bachelors degree next year.
