Marvin Brown and Paul Thomas traveled with Dr. Eran Kilpatrick to present their research projects at three different conferences this spring.
On April 5, Paul and Marvin presented at the University of Georgia for the 73rd Annual Meeting of the Association of Southeastern Biologists. They also presented their work at the Annual Meeting of the South Carolina Academy of Science on April 14 and at USC’s Discovery Day on April 20.
Marvin and Paul were awarded grants through the USC Magellan Scholar Program last year to conduct research under the mentorship of Dr. Kilpatrick. Marvin’s project focused on the distribution and habitat characteristics of the green-fly orchid in the Salkehatchie region. Paul evaluated frog and toad species detection and site occupancy in the South Carolina Coastal Plain using the North American Amphibian Monitoring Program.
Paul’s work was awarded second place in the Environmental Science I section at Discovery Day. Dr. Kilpatrick, Marvin Brown, and Paul Thomas were also featured in the cover story on the April 19 edition of USC Times.
