James Brown

An audience of 90 was rocking out to the funky sounds of James Brown, as played by Brown impersonator Jessie Sumter and his Just Whalin’ band. Backed by a full band that included saxophones, trumpets, guitar, conga and traditional drums, ‘Brown’ rolled through his notable hits, including ‘I Got You (I Feel Good)’, ‘Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine’, ‘It’s a Man’s Man’s World’, and ‘Cold Sweat’.

Preceding the main event, Lisa B. Haynes sang a number of golden oldies, plus an original song titled ‘Addicted’. Lisa is an accomplished vocalist from Orangeburg that just cut her first recording, soon to be available on iTunes.

James Brown Superfan Gayle Walsh, also known as USC Salkehatchie’s resident IT expert, grooved to the music accompanied by her travel companion the Littlest Godfather of Soul. Hosted by USC Salkehatchie at the Carolina Theatre and presented by the Allendale County Arts Council, a fun and groovy time was had by all!
